Remembering The Holocaust

Eric Cohen recently visited school and gave a talk about life as a Jew and as a child of Holocaust survivors to our Year 9 students.

It was really encouraging to hear his personal story and remember the importance of valuing each other’s beliefs and experiences.

Stories, such as the time his uncle, a promising international boxer, hit a Nazi over the head with a candlestick (pictured below), and his father being in the same concentration camp as Anne Frank (his father was liberated from the camp) truly brought the horror of the Holocaust to life. To actually hold the candlestick, with the dent in the corner will be a very memorable moment for all.

Year 9 students were enthralled by Eric’s talk, and the session ended with many students asking questions to find out more about Eric and his family’s story.
