Community Christmas Cards - posted 17th Dec

 To spread the Christmas Cheer, we asked our students to design Christmas Cards which would be sent out to our local community.

We received dozens of competition entries which was wonderful to see, even from students at home having to self-isolate!

Movember - posted 1st Dec

Following the lead set by our inspirational ‘Movember team captain’ Mr Walker (horeshoe) in previous years’, Mr Langford (pencil) and myself (chevron) also took on the challenge of cultivating moustaches throughout the month of November.

Although I’m sure you will agree that they look mighty fine, they are not simply for vanity’s sake (“Either the moustache goes at the end of the month or I do!”- Mrs Wheatcroft). It is all done in the name of raising awareness of men’s health, both physical and mental.

Gateacre School were extremely pleased to be part of the Lateral Flow pilot taking part in 12 secondary schools across Liverpool, in conjunction with the British Army.

All at Gateacre School would like to thank the British Army for their help, support and dedication to this Liverpool initiative. Similarly, we would like to thank the British Army for the part they played during our Remembrance Day commemorations on Wednesday. This certainly became a more poignant, emotional event as a result of their participation.

Although most days in school at the moment wouldn't be classed as normal, we had a particularly interesting day this week when the local and national media descended on us to get our opinions on the mass testing programme and the new Lateral Flow tests, that can give results in less than 20 minutes.

Students, parents and Mr. Jones our Head Teacher were interviewed for a number of different channels including, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BBC Radio Merseyside and the Liverpool Echo. It was great to be able to debunk some myths around the testing process with students stating although it is uncomfortable for a few seconds it's definitely not as bad as you think it will be.

UK Parliament Week - posted 5th Nov

As part of UK Parliament Week our Y13 IT class had a video Q&A with our local MP, Maria Eagle, whilst she was in her office in Westminster.

The students asked excellent questions ranging from, what she does in parliament, thoughts on the leader of the opposition, thoughts on the prime minister, the current government, how to become an MP, how to pass a bill through parliament and for it to become law, education including this year's exams, Liverpool's new test and trace initiative, the impact of eat out to help and lockdown 2.
