Headteacher's End of Summer Term Newsletter 14/09/21

Dear Parent or Carer,

As we look back on an unpredictable previous academic year, we all hope that the new academic year ahead is more settled with opportunities for all students to engage with the rigors of learning back in school.

May I take this opportunity to welcome the parents of our new Year 7 students and I wish them well in their first term with us, here in Gateacre.  Similarly, may I also welcome back our former Year 11 students who have returned to us in Year 12 with the addition of a number of Year 12 students who have joined us from other schools across Liverpool.  I hope that you all enjoy the experience of learning here in Gateacre Sixth Form.

During this academic year I would hope for the School to return to more normal routines which will include the resumption of Breakfast Club from October Half Term onwards.  In addition to this I hope that I can share the activities and points for celebration with you all via the Headteachers News Letter on a more regular basis.

Regarding communication, I hope that all parents and carers, along with students, now have access to our app EduLink One.  This app serves as an electronic information service which has now replaced the need for a planner, for our students.  If you still require details of this app or have experienced difficulties, please contact the school via the admin@gateacre.org email and we shall provide support for you.

I have also been asked over the last few weeks about ties.  We are slowly returning to a purple and black tie for all our new starters, when they join us in Year 7.  Older year groups will still have different coloured ties; however, these are still part of the uniform and will ultimately be phased out as each new year begins. If your son or daughter misplaces their tie I would ask that you replace it with the purple and black version which can be purchased from our uniform supplier on Allerton Road or here in school.  Similarly, we currently have a selection of items of school uniform available here in reception.

May I also draw your attention to upcoming dates in the diary.

Friday 17th September 2021 is an INSET Day for all colleagues here in school and therefore the school will be closed to all students on that day.  The school will of course reopen again on Monday 20th September 2021 as usual.

On Wednesday 22nd September 2021 we are now, once again, able to hold our annual Open Evening for prospective new students, with some Covid-19 measures in place.  This event will take place from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on that day.  In order for Gateacre colleagues to prepare for this important event we will be releasing students at the end of Period 4 at 2:05pm on the 22nd September 2021 in order that we may sufficiently prepare for the event.

Similarly, for Gateacre colleagues to clear up after this busy evening and prepare for teaching and learning, I am requesting that your son or daughter attend school at the slightly later time of 10:35am or at the beginning of Period 2 on Thursday 23rd September2021.  All students must go to lesson 2 as there will be no break for any student due to the later start. These events may require you to make alternative childcare arrangements.

I sincerely hope that you all have enjoyed your summer break and that your child has enjoyed the return to school.
