Headteacher's Newsletter 23/09/2019

Dear Parents and Carers

As the Autumn Equinox is now upon us and the days will begin to shorten, it is crucial that all students take care on their way to and from school.  Dark mornings and evenings are an important time to remember to remove headphones when crossing roads and to be extra vigilant when moving about outside of school.

Attendance Matters

attendance every day matters

Attendance to date 94.68% (94.01% this time last year)

Unfortunately, attendance is on a 3 week decline; we have dropped 2% since the start of term.  Could I please request that you have those difficult conversations about attendance with your child, particularly if they are in Year 11.

Attend Today: Achieve Tomorrow!

Y6 Taster Day

Friday saw our annual Taster Day for Year 6 students.  This was a day of celebration which saw many of our primary feeder schools from near and far attend a Gateacre School taster day.  Over 600 primary students joined Gateacre School staff to take part in various activities ranging from food tests in science to studying the Titanic in history.  This gave our future students a wonderful ‘taste’ of what secondary school is like.

Open Evening 25th September 5pm-8pm

Taster Day is followed by Open Evening; an opportunity for all in the local community to see the fantastic opportunities that future Gateacre students will encounter when they attend.  This will take place on Wednesday evening 25th September from 5pm to 8pm and all parents and carers of Years 4, 5 and 6 pupils are welcome. As we have done in previous years, to prepare for Open Evening arrangements, lessons will finish early at 2pm on Wednesday and school will start at the later time of 09:40am Thursday.
