Newsletter 13th January 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

As the Christmas decorations are now boxed up and stored away for another year, we begin our second week of January.  Our resolutions, hopefully, are still going strong and that determination still continues.  With those resolutions in mind, I am hoping all parents and carers are ensuring that attendance and punctuality remain high on their list of priorities and if necessary it remains as a resolution for those where it wasn’t.  Based on the attendance figures from last week, the sickness bug that was causing huge discomfort with many of our students has now passed and they have returned to school.

Exams & Attendance

Attendance is vital during examinations.  This week will see the beginning of the Year 13 mock examination week. I would expect all Year 13 to attending school this week to ensure that they are able to give of their best during such an important week in the school calendar.

With examinations and calendars in mind, please remember the date of the first written GCSE examination: Monday 11th May 2020.  This is now only 70 school days away. If your son or daughter has not begun revision then they should begin to do a little revision each week on top of their normal routines.

Uniform has been worn well by the majority of our students last week.  Again, with resolutions in mind, can I ask that whenever possible you check the quality of it, particularly shoes worn for school.

Headteacher's Reward

This week will see the start of the Headteacher’s Reward.  Heads of Year are asked to recommend a student who has done particularly well in some aspect of their school or community work.  Awards day this week is Wednesday 15th January 2020.

Music Department trip to the Philharmonic Hall

Music students from Year 8 up to Year 13 visited the Philharmonic Hall last Thursday to watch a concert of music by Strauss and Stravinsky, given by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

It was a brilliant concert, with all students commenting on how much they had enjoyed the performances. A member of the audience even commented on the exemplary behaviour of our students!

Next up is a trip to see Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro at the Liverpool Empire in March. We are looking forward to it!
