DISCOVER A LOVE FOR LEARNING – ACADEMIC

Gateacre Sixth Form pupils are curious, ambitious learners. We encourage all students to begin with three A Levels, providing flexibility as interests and goals evolve. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) further deepens learning, offering a taste of genuine academic research.

Our unique Gateacre Curriculum extends learning beyond the syllabus, with weekly sessions, academic mentoring, and a visiting lecture series featuring leaders from diverse fields – from astronauts to campaigners.

Students receive one-to-one guidance from mentor teachers for personal statements, admissions tests, and university applications. Our results tell only part of the story: Gateacre students leave not just with excellent grades, but with the independence and determination to succeed in higher education and beyond.

LEADERSHIP IN THE COMMUNITY

Sixth Form pupils are leaders and role models across the school. Positions such as Sixth Form Captains, Senior Prefects, Peer Mentors, and Society Leaders provide valuable experience in leadership and communication.

Our commitment to ‘service’ extends beyond our walls: students volunteer, fundraise, and partner with local schools and charities, embodying Gateacre’s ethos of compassion and contribution.

WELLBEING AND BALANCE

At Gateacre, academic success and wellbeing go hand in hand. Students thrive when they feel mastery over their course knowledge, supported academically and pastorally, and secure within themselves and unique individuals.

Our dedicated Sixth Form team takes time to get to know each student, celebrating achievements and providing support when challenges arise. From 2026, our new House system will build an even stronger sense of belonging, fostering healthy competition and shared pride across the school.

DEDICATED SUPPORT AND AN ADULT ENVIRONMENT

Life in the Sixth Form feels different - more independent, more collaborative, and more like the next step after school.

Our dedicated Sixth Form Suite includes a relaxed common room, seminar spaces, a kitchen, and quiet study areas - all designed to prepare you for university life.

Our pastoral care team, including tutors, counsellors, and wellbeing staff, are always available to support you both academically and pastorally.

Diversity and inclusion are central to our ethos. Our multicultural community reflects the richness of our city and prepares students to thrive as global citizens in an interconnected world.
