‘Homework’ has been proven to be an important aspect of learning and one we felt we need to improve on.  

In light of this, we have revisited our Homework policy and, after researching practices that are proven to work, we have devised a better way of setting tasks for our students. We need your support to help it be a success.

We are thrilled that the Adlib Industry Day and Bands Night is back on 5th Feb.

Adlib are a world renowned lighting and sound company who regularly tour with the likes of The Script, Bob Dylan, Jimmy Carr, Russell Howard and Jack Whitehall. Adlib was created by a former Gateacre student, Andy Dockerty.

FREE online course for parents, carers and grandparents - posted 20th Jan

Liverpool City Council have invested in a multi-user licence for 4 award winning, quality marked, evidence based online courses by the Solihull Approach (a national NHS organisation). 

  • We believe parents are their children's first and most important educators.
  • We are committed to developing a strong relationship between parents and school. 
  • We also encourage children to develop 'growth mind-sets', so children believe that ability and success are not pre-determined, but due to learning.

We are therefore delighted to give a growth and learning opportunity to you as parents and carers as well!

City indoor athletics competition - posted 16th Jan

On Monday we took 14 boys, seven from Y7 and seven from Y8 to Everton Park Sports Centre to compete in the annual city indoor athletics competition.

The boys attitude and level of performance were excellent and as a result both teams made it through to the Merseyside Youth Games final in March. The Y7 team finished 2nd and the Y8's finished 4th overall after some outstanding individual and group performances.

Girls in STEM - posted 9th Jan

A group of Y10 girls recently attended a “Girls in STEM” day at the University of Liverpool.

The students discovered how Google works, explored how maths can fit into music and experimented with telling stories through graphs. A fantastic learning experience for us all.

Music Department trip to the Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool – Thursday 9th January

Music students from Year 8 up to Year 13 visited the Philharmonic Hall to watch a concert of music by Strauss and Stravinsky, given by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Carol Concert - posted 20th Dec

On a very bleak midwinter, students, teachers and parents alike gathered for Gateacre’s annual Christmas concert. The audience was treated to the usual favourites: readings; communal carols and the Gateacre Orchestra, who started off proceedings with Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

The first half was a musically diverse one, ranging from pop music (The Year 7 choir enthusiastically singing Arianna Grande’s Santa Tell Me), to Jamie-Lei Dennett’s jazzy rendition of You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch and Ollie Switzer’s confident rock vocal in Ms Believer. An upbeat Amy Figueira more than did justice to Leona Lewis’s One More Sleep, and was a fitting way to end the first half.

Drama at The Basement - posted 19th Dec

Year 8 had been exploring the topic of Homelessness and as part of the course they have been asked to donate one item for the homeless charity ‘The Basement.’

Their mission is to challenge homelessness and addiction by promoting recovery and empowering people to transform their own lives.

Christmas Comedy Cracker - posted 13th Dec

Whilst everyone was getting ready for Halloween Gateacre Open the Gate Theatre Company were thinking about CHRISTMAS!

We wanted to bring a night full of laughter, nostalgia & appreciation of fruitcakes with our night of festive short Christmas skit performances. From receiving that dreaded Christmas fruitcake, seeing Santa appoint his new cookie supervisor, Santa having a ‘cookie’ problem (that sneaky elf swapping his outfits) to funny letters students have sent to Santa & poems it really was a Christmas hootenanny!

BIG Little Library Christmas Book Flood - posted 12th Dec

On Saturday 30th November, our multi award-winning community venture The BIG Little Library again gave away brand new books for Christmas.

The campaign was in conjunction with BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity and Belle Vale shopping centre in Liverpool. We also had 100's of nearly new books which were kindly donated by the former Ticket to Read Project in Woolton Village.
