Newsflash 24/05/2019

Attendance Matters

As the end of half term approaches we tend to see a dip again across all year groups, which is obviously concerning.

Only Year 10 managed to be above 94% and this was for two days with the rest of school hovering around the mid 90’s.

I’d like to remind parents and carers again that Liverpool city region via its ‘Liverpool Promise’ programme has an ambition that Liverpool is the best city in the UK to grow up in – where children are healthy, happy, safe from harm, ready to learn, ready for school and ready for work.  Part of this work is centred around ensuring that children attend school on regular basis.  Regular, good school attendance is 97% and above.

Last Call For Your Views

Helping the school continue to develop and improve

I hope you can remember back two weeks (10th May Newsflash) when I asked for your comments to help us develop our plans going forward for the next 2 years.

If you missed the Newsflash where it was mentioned it can be found here.

We would very much like to take your views on the following two questions:

1. What priorities should the school have for 2019-20 and 2020-21 and why?

2. What actions should the Senior Leadership Team put into place to drive this improvement?

Standards and Expectations

Summer Term 2 is generally a time when items of clothing can get a bit old and tatty, both boys and girls can have significant growth spurts across the academic year.  However, that being said, we must insist on parents and carers continuing to instil the high expectations we now come to hold. Here is a  reminder of our uniform standards so that when we return on Monday 3rd June there is absolutely no confusion regarding what is or is not acceptable.

Please click here which will take you to the uniform guidance page on our website where you can also download a PDF version.

We have designed the guide in such a way so that it gives you a very clear idea about what we expect so there should be no arguments between you or your child and, equally, there should be no issues between school and home.

GCSE Maths Revision

Revision materials to prepare students for Paper 2 GCSE Maths exam taking place on 6th June is available for students to download over half term.
This gives students and their parents an opportunity to access them here:  https://www.gateacre.org/academic/subjects/maths/

Safeguarding update – online threats and concerns

I hope that you continue to keep yourself aware of what your child is doing online and via apps.  It is up to parents/carers to have an oversight of how their child is using the many different social media apps that spring up nearly daily.

If you want to refresh your self about the online world that many young people take part in these days you can click here which will take you safety advice for parents.  In this section on our website we have tried to gather together in one place key information about threats that your child could face online.

We have been alerted to an app/website called live.me which essentially asks people to perform a series of tasks to release a video and/or open up other parts of the app.  Unfortunately this app is totally unregulated and the content of some videos is extremely graphic.  There is also a concern that other ‘users’ may pose as children, enticing children to take pictures or make videos of themselves in compromising positions and then use threats of publishing these online to make the victim do even more extreme things.

Definitely worrying, hence why we are making you aware so that you can ensure that you monitor your child’s phone for such things.
