Our Vision & Values

At Gateacre School, we believe that an education should prepare students for a meaningful life. Our values are not just statements; they are the guiding principles that shape our community and every student's journey.

Academic Excellence

We encourage intellectual curiosity, critical self-reflection, and a passion for seeking truth through evidence and healthy scepticism. Our students are challenged to "be liberally instructed in good books" and to develop the rigour needed to thrive in a complex world.

Community and Compassion

We are a community that marries ambition with compassion, integrity, and empathy. We believe that every individual, with all their unique enthusiasms, can flourish safely and happily in a climate of mutual respect and wellbeing.

Creativity and Collaboration

We embrace opportunities to be creative and collaborative, recognising that through the arts, sport, spiritual exploration, and service, we can develop a full range of talents and build resilience, confidence, and insight as fully-rounded human beings.

Justice and Inclusion

We are proudly conscious of our role as a progressive school in the heart of one of the world's most diverse cities. We are committed to challenging prejudice, promoting justice, and ensuring fairness, equality, and inclusion in all our interactions.

Personal Responsibility

We promote personal responsibility in all that we do, including our behaviour toward others and our respect for our shared environment. We aim to ensure that subsequent generations have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of a liberal education and to make a difference in the world.

Gateacre has always cherished individuality, but we know that individual talent is best supported by a collective pursuit and celebration of excellence. By working together with kindness, rigour, and respect, we can each be nourished intellectually, physically, and spiritually as we strive to be good citizens and achieve distinction.

OUR EXPECTATIONS

At Gateacre School, we expect our pupils to embody the school's Values, and Vision in their behaviour, both in person and online. By fostering a positive, happy, and inclusive environment, we ensure that every member of our learning community feels safe, respected, and welcomed.

Every Gateacre student is expected to:

  • Be Respectful: Treat others with kindness and courtesy at all times.
  • Be Inclusive: Use language and actions that ensure everyone feels welcome and accepted.
  • Be Honest: Act with integrity, trustworthiness, and compassion.
  • Be Responsible: Show respect for our environment, including all school buildings and property, as well as the wider community.
  • Be Engaged: Get involved with drama, music, sport, volunteering, or whatever interests you.
  • Be Determined: Be committed to learning, knowing that mistakes are a vital part of growth and development.
  • Be Generous: Contribute to our school community with a spirit of charity, allowing others to have a voice and explore ideas together.
  • Be Proactive: Seek help for yourself or others when you need it, knowing that there is always someone available and willing to listen and support you.
  • Be Proud: Remember that you represent Gateacre School in all you do, and that your behaviour reflects on our shared community.
