BUILDING CONFIDENCE AND CHARACTER

At Gateacre School, student leadership is about more than just a title—it's a cornerstone of our community. We believe that providing students with opportunities to lead and serve is key to developing self-confidence, a strong social conscience, and a forward-thinking mindset. Throughout the school, students are given a platform to voice their opinions and ideas, helping to shape our school's future.

Leadership roles begin as early as Year XX with our School Council representatives. The School Council meets weekly to discuss ideas to improve the school, from eco-friendly initiatives like "Meat-free Mondays" to new ideas for clubs, such as a Lego Club. Different representatives are voted in by their class, with separate councils for the Senior and Junior schools that frequently share ideas. Other key class leaders include Form Captains and representatives for Wellbeing, Diversity & Inclusion, Charity, Digital, and Eco initiatives.

In Year XX and Year 13, students are awarded prefect roles. These responsibilities range from subject-specific prefectships in areas like Sports, Art, and Music to roles that support younger students, such as Nursery prefects and the heads of Buddy Groups. The Head Student Team is elected in the Spring Term of Year 12, ready to assume their positions for the Summer Term. Our Head Student is at the pinnacle of student leadership, acting as a crucial link between staff and students.

Through these roles, our students learn and practice essential leadership skills, including effective communication, the ability to inspire others, and the art of delegation. These are vital life skills that will serve them well beyond their time at Gateacre School, preparing them for success in the wider world.
